The Perkins mission is to prepare children and young adults who are blind with the education, tools and skills they need to realize their potential.
Guardianship: You Have Been Appointed Guardian, Now What?
Guardians are appointed to provide decisional support in areas where a young adult has challenges. For family guardians, who have been caring for the person through childhood, this transition comes with new rules. And some of the rules are shocking. To make it even more confusing, many loved ones aren’t even made aware of what they are expected to do (or not do).
In this program, we will share what great guardians do to create a successful experience for the adult-with-a-guardian, for the state or court that appointed you, and for yourself.
Speaker: Heather Connors, Ph.D., Executive Director, The Center for Guardianship Excellence

Переглядів 10514 днів тому
Talking with our young and grown children about sexuality can be a difficult task. As parents and guardians, we often worry whether talking about it gives permission and whether they can be safe from harm when they are in relationships. This workshop will help you become more comfortable discussing sexuality by having a conversation about what to cover when and the most effective ways to talk a...

In Part Two of our Guardianship Series, we talk about Supported Decision Making. It is gradually becoming recognized worldwide so that a young adult’s SDM team can have access to information previously provided only to legal guardians. So, how does a young adul...

Переглядів 9421 день тому
In Part One of our Guardianship Series, we talk about the key aspects of coming of age and explore how we can support individuals in being self-determined with the least restrictions, with safeguards in place. Age of majority is an important benchmark for individuals with disabilities. Age of majority is the transition from childhood to adulthood. The age of majority is 18 in most states. If in...

Happy Birthday Helen Keller 🎂2024 🎈 Thank you for honoring Helen and for teaching me, Jami and Christine. You probably don't remember, Jami but I met you on Helen's birthday in Tuscumbia Alabama back in 2003 🙂You were the Grand Marshal for their celebration. It was a joy and inspiration to meet you ❤ You were so kind to me. I've never forgotten because Helen Keller has meant so much to me since I was a little girl and your enthusiasm for advocacy stayed with me into adulthood. Thank you for being you and God Bless 🤟
awesome
I think that you have the right to be as Independent as possible. Some people do not know that and they communicate with other people and not me when you are with other people.
0:31 these lyrics are ironic because the students are blind/severely visually impaired.
She’s the real Mother Teresa
They say love is blind, Do you think they explore each other.
Yep,She is a role model in how to treat everybody around you...She is a very kind and generous person and she has a amazing voice...She is very talented and sings from her soul.
Just wonderful
i can see the determination
My favorite has to be the 100 m
Groß artige Frau

I’m gonna touch all of them and they’ll never know who it is
Muito bem explicado, obrigada!
Incredible!
Awesome job explaining the Clover book! ⭐️
Cool feature the split screen, allows student to see the front of the room and still take notes. The system allows the student to label files audibly. This is helpful to find notes or pictures later. The telescope also allows student to look at items to large yo fit under unit. The battery system runs for 4 hours and it is easy to swap out the battery. So many new features and the screen is pretty large. The screen is Touch screen!
Great device 👍
You take a real book but end up reading from the screen😂
Is this not what digital books are for
Wouldn't you just use a magnifying glass? One with a built in light
Your hand would be tired at some point
I love how they use azumanga daioh as an example lol
is that Azumanga Daioh? lol
that's awesome :O
That looks pretty cool😊
Please my problem is to know how to adjust when the dots are not coming out
Hello

Ima thrower not a runner so shotput and discus🥇✨️
I would smoke them in any run
Bro, you know they’re blind, right?
And this is why I’m against abortion. You have no idea of someone’s potential until they are given the resources and tools to try.
Nice job guys! ❤
I love my blind students. They are very talented. Congratulations to you🎉🎉🎉
